Surrounded by busy city-life
and the violent noise and fumes
of city traffic, the park is an oasis.
You can smell the earth,
the grass, the budding trees;
especially after the rain of
last night.
Walking here, everyday,
connects us urbanites
with the values of
Mother Earth:
the fresh air to fill our lungs,
the products coming from
her global womb to feed us.
The only thing we have to do -
before all what we are left with,
are the violent noises and fumes
of urbanised life -
is notice her, smell her, feel her.
And respect her.
Treat her well.

Very nice poem. Enjoyed reading it. So much so, you’ve inspired me to write my own EarthDay poem! Thanks.

Thank you Dominick, and that this inspired you to write your own poem, is maybe the best compliment. Be sure to share your link here in the comments
No problem. It’s a very well deserved comment. I hope I reach your level of talent one day!

A great reminder to keep the green of the world in our minds as we live… lovely.
Thank you, Eve. Yes, I’m a true urbanite, but I love those bits of nature. And fresh food
.
hey i really liked your poem, which modern day poets would you say inspire you the most?
Thank you elexxa! Hmm, it’s hard to say. There are so many, and many of them have some form of inspirational influence. But if I have to name one, it would be Wyslawa Szymborska, who sadly recently passed away. Her poems seem so straight forward, so every day, but have an amazing depth. And somehow they just touch my heart.
